Background

• Originally developed to address the limited availability of reliable tools assessing complex social functions. The method is described by Krueger-Burg et al., in a 2016 paper “The SocioBox: a Novel Paradigm to Assess Complex Social Recognition in Male Mice”. The paradigm studied how readily an experimental mouse could identify an unfamiliar mouse among 5 newly acquainted animals.
• Ugo Basile’s Agora Maze was recently used by University of Aberdeen for research into smell related behaviors (anosmia), with the purpose of understanding mechanisms of Parkinson’s Disease.

Durable, magnetic attachments, perforated panels

• High quality, easy to assemble. All materials are selected to be sturdy for reliability and durability.
• Magnetic attachment of the external boxes for quick, easy replacement of stimulus mice.
• Addresses the high dependence of smell in mouse social interaction. Transparent (detachable) panels that divide each cubicle are perforated to permit the exchange of odors.
• Engineered with high contrast, non-reflective materials that are optimal for video tracking.
• Tests can be automatically recorded by video tracking software for later viewing at a convenient time. Recorded parameters can include time spent, distance travelled by the mice in the central and periphery (cubicle wall) zones of the arena.
• Anti-slip, naturally warm, maze surface texture is selected for best rodent comfort.
• Easily and quickly disassembled for easy cleaning.
• Consists of a 50x50cm grey base. 5 cubicles, and 5 blank walls that are positioned to enclose a central square, with a cross diameter of 34 cm. The 5 cubicles are sized 13×11.5cm.
