Listeria Bacteria forms blue or light blue colonies

CompactDry® is a ready-to-use test method for microbiological testing in food and water laboratories which helps to reduce the labour hours needed to perform microbial testing. Maximising productivity by increasing efficiency.

CompactDry™  is a ready-to-use test method which helps to reduce the time needed to perform microbial testing. Therefore, it allows maximum productivity by increasing efficiency. The plates can be used to test raw materials as well as finished products like food, beverage, meat, cosmetic or other samples. The Compact Dry plates can also be used as a contact plate for difficult areas using the Compact Dry swab.

CompactDry LS (Listeria)  is a ready to use, chromogenic plate for detection of Listeria spec.

Sample pretreatment

Viable count in water or liquid foodstuff
Drop 1 ml of specimen (dilute if necessary) on the middle of the Compact Dry plate.

Viable count in solid foodstuff
Add buffer solution to the sample and homogenize by stomacher®. Drop 1 ml of specimen (dilute if necessary) in the middle of the dry sheet of the Compact Dry plate.

Viable count in swab test specimen
Use the swab to wipe the surface, put into the device with wiping solution. Drop 1 ml of wiping solution (dilute if necessary) in the middle of the Compact Dry plate. It is recommended to use ‘Swab for Compact Dry’ offered by HyServe Id-No. 1 002 952/3 (40/240 pieces).

Notes

  • It is known that Listeria ivanovii tends to grow slowely and Listeria seeligeri tends to be inhibited in this plate.
  • A combination of selective agents in the medium inhibit the growth of other bacteria.
  • High concentrations on plates will cause the entire growth area to become red/pink. In this case dilute the sample.
  • After use please follow the current disposal regulations.
  • Compact Dry plates are produced at an ISO 9001 certified site.

Membrane filter method: procedure for CompactDry™

Additionally membrane filters can be tested using CompactDry™ plates. Filter 1ml water or any other liquid using an ordinary membrane filter (e.g. 47 mm, 45 µm), then pipette 1 ml of sterile water into the middle of the Compact Dry plate and place the filter on the CompactDry™ plate. The filter should be trap side up. Colonies will grow on the filter.
